Xero has officially launched JAX (Just Ask Xero) — a new AI-powered assistant designed to help small businesses and their advisors find answers faster and navigate the Xero platform more confidently.
Whether you’re checking up on overdue invoices, trying to understand your cash flow, or looking for help using certain features in Xero, JAX is your new go-to digital sidekick. Think of it as a blend between a smart help desk and a guided assistant — right inside your Xero dashboard.
What is JAX?
JAX is Xero’s new generative AI assistant, built into the Xero platform. It works by combining your business’s Xero data with Xero’s internal help guides, knowledge base, and AI-powered interpretation of what you’re asking — so you can get real-time, personalised support without needing to leave the software.
You simply type a question into the JAX interface, and it responds with helpful insights, explanations, or even links to where you need to go in your Xero file.
JAX is designed to assist both business owners and accounting/bookkeeping professionals, reducing the time spent searching for answers and increasing your confidence in using the software day-to-day.
What Can You Ask JAX?
JAX can already handle a wide range of questions and tasks, such as:
🔍 Finding Data in Your Xero File
“Which bills are due next week?”
“What did I spend on advertising in Q1?”
“Who are my top five customers by sales?”
📈 Understanding Financial Performance
“What was my profit last month?”
“Has my revenue increased this financial year?”
“How do I compare this quarter to last quarter?”
📋 Getting Help With Xero Features
“How do I reconcile a bank transaction?”
“Can you help me create a repeating invoice?”
“How do I invite my accountant to my Xero file?”
📚 Learning the Basics
“What is accounts receivable?”
“What does GST on imports mean?”
“Explain the difference between cash and accrual accounting.”
Is It Secure?
Yes — Xero has designed JAX with privacy and data integrity in mind. It’s not a generic AI chatbot like ChatGPT. Instead, JAX is securely embedded in your Xero account and trained specifically on Xero’s own systems and help documentation, with access only to your business’s own Xero data (and only if you have permission to access it).
So while it’s powered by AI, it’s not sharing your data anywhere outside of the Xero environment.
How Do I Access JAX?
JAX is currently being rolled out gradually across Xero organisations in Australia and New Zealand, starting with selected users in early 2024. If you don’t see JAX in your Xero dashboard yet, don’t worry — it’s coming soon.
Once enabled, you’ll see a small JAX icon or prompt on your Xero dashboard where you can start typing questions.
Will JAX Replace My Bookkeeper or Accountant?
No — and that’s an important distinction.
JAX is a support tool, not a decision-maker. It can help you understand your reports, answer technical questions, and guide you through certain Xero processes. But it won’t give you tailored advice, help with tax planning, or review the bigger picture of your business strategy.
That’s where we come in. As your accountants and advisors, we’re here to help you interpret the numbers, make smart decisions, and stay compliant. JAX just makes it easier to get through your day-to-day Xero tasks more independently and efficiently.
Why We Like It
We’re excited about the launch of JAX because we know how time-consuming (and sometimes confusing) it can be to dig through help articles or wait for support when you hit a roadblock in Xero.
JAX empowers you to:
• Get answers fast, without leaving your workflow
• Learn while you go — building confidence with Xero
• Find and use features you might not have realised were available
It’s a smart step forward in making small business accounting more user-friendly and accessible.
Final Thoughts
The addition of JAX is a great example of how cloud accounting continues to evolve — not just with features, but with intelligent assistance that makes the software more intuitive.
If you have access to JAX, we encourage you to give it a try!
